This 1986 GMC S15 has plenty of honesty and patina. Plus, the right pep of a fuel-injected motor and a four-speed make this value-price pickup quite fun to drive.
This truck is going to have an instant appeal to a patina-loving crowd. There’s plenty of sun-baked maturity that takes the blue and gives it a fade to black and even red. And the body has a look of real truck use over every inch. As we said, it’s not for everyone, but if you’ve got a nice V8 sitting in your garage and you want to make a patina sleeper, you know this is the right lightweight package to do it. It even already has the Cragar wheels a touch of sporty forward-leaning stance.
The interior continues the worn-in kind of honesty. For some of this is pure classic truck cool, and those who want to make improvements know that most of the components are easily available on the aftermarket. And this one likes to be a proper driver with the right fundamentals in place, like the grippy dual-spoke steering wheel, the clean action of the stick shift, and an updated bench seat done in a comfy velour.
Under the hood is the 2.5-liter motor. This is a version of the Iron Duke motor that now includes fuel injection. In fact, GM added new features to give it some added pep but it never lost its hardy base (remember Jeep even bought the Iron Duke for use in the CJs.) So while we toyed with the idea of a V8 upgrade earlier, you also have a solid powerhouse already in place. It fires up eagerly like a nice fuel-injected machine should, and the smooth idle suggests the proper care and maintenance over the years. The four-speed manual transmission is the ideal pairing to make sure you have the control to get the most out of the motor. There are also newer suspension components, power steering, power brakes, front discs, and a new set of tires. So it makes for a solid driver.
This is a fun driver on day one and there’s a ton of potential in a light weight pickup with plenty of real earned patina. Call today!
